As we welcome 2025, I’m thrilled to announce the theme for this year’s MDCon! Last year marked our inaugural MDCon, themed “MiniDisc Mafia,” and it was a fantastic experience. In choosing last year's theme, my intent was to celebrate the community support for the show. We enjoyed customized logo badges and lanyards, and many attendees embraced the theme by dressing in black—some even exclusively, like Judd Sandage and myself.
The theme for MDCon 2025 is “The MDLife,” inspired by a well-known Maxell disc. With a creative spin on fonts and spelling, we bring you MDLife! A special graphic celebrating this theme has been designed and will be featured on products in the MDCon Store on our website.
What is The MDLife?
MDLife means something unique to each of us. For some, it’s about how they choose to enjoy audio; for others, it’s a nod to simpler times and the charm of physical media. Ultimately, MDLife celebrates the choices we make, which is what life is all about. Your choices, your style.
Announcing the Winter Disc Swap Theme: MDLife!
The theme for our Winter Disc Swap aligns with MDLife. Create a playlist that reflects what MDLife means to you! Here’s what you need to know:
- Sign-up Deadline: January 31st, 2025
- Guidelines:
- Discs should be in SP format for compatibility across players.
- Feel free to use any disc, from simple Sony Neige models to rare finds—it’s entirely up to you!
- Commitment: By participating, you commit to covering postage fees (including possible international shipping), ensuring tracking for your disc, and dedicating time and resources to this swap.
- Postmark Deadline: All discs should be postmarked by February 15th, 2025.
- Shipping Tip (US only): Save on domestic postage by using USPS Media Mail at your local post office—just bring a disc or player to show that it qualifies!
- Creative Labeling: Get as creative as you like with labeling! A simple handwritten label is absolutely fine.
- Optional Extras: Some participants include a small token from their region—this is optional but appreciated.
- Verified Signup: Email verification is required for signup.
I’m dedicated to ensuring everyone receives a disc—if someone doesn't, I’ll personally cover it to maintain the community’s spirit. Let’s keep the tradition going strong!
When you are done creating your disc, please do pop over the MiniDisc.Wiki Disc Swap section and catalog your disc with track list and photos if you can. The process for creation of your disc's page is a little tricky, but entirely possible. Reach out if you need some assistance! (account creation and login is required)
SideSwaps and Extra Connections
Beyond the main swap, some of us like to do “SideSwaps”—extra copies for trades outside the main event. These can be exciting and allow you to share more discs, but they’re optional and at your own discretion.
I’ve made many wonderful connections in the MiniDisc community through these swaps, and each new playlist or piece of artwork is a joy to receive. The best part? The excitement of finding that disc in your mailbox—it truly brightens my day.
