by SoggyMD... To mark MiniDisc’s 10th year on sale at the end of 2002, Sony decided to push the envelope and prove just how far they could take the ultimate portable disc format ever produced. To see how small, adaptable, and stylish they could make their new machines - to glimpse the future of MD production, rather than celebrate the past. In doing so, they created two unique units that are rather unlike anything that came before or after. Being two sides of the same coin, one would imagine they’re rather similar in design philosophy… but in actual fact, the differences between the two couldn’t be more stark despite their shared goals. How Sony managed to get one so right while getting the other so wrong is a question that’s come to mind countless times throughout my time preparing for this review, and I’ll be doing my best to answer it in detail!
