1. (12) Get to Know You - A compilation of songs that make you, you. The songs that have made the most lasting impressions or still do, etc.
2. Tie (8) Through the Years - (time machine) Pick a starting year, example being 1974, find a song from that year and go each sequential year with each track. Track 2 being 75, 3, 76 etc. So on and so forth. An analog musical time machine. Could do it in reverse.
2. Tie (8) Find Your Center - Songs that help you find solace, or songs that help one through difficult moments.
3. (7) All Covered Up - Who did it better? The original artist or the covering artist. Could also have honorable mentions, as well.
4. (6) Fall - The weather gets colder. leaves change color and drop, leaving barren branches. animals migrate or prepare for hibernation. create a disc of songs that capture the feeling of fall as nature experiences it. no pumpkin spice, no Halloween.
5. (5) Future Sound - Playing off the y2k era trend towards optimistic futurism in product design and marketing. This could be:
Where you think a specific genre is heading,
Where you WANT it to head,
What others have seen as "ahead of its time" when it is released if your music historian headed (think Brian Eno calling I feel love by donna summer "the sound of the future") Or even songs that, to you, embodies or express a futuristic mindset or sound.
In all, it's way to be hopeful, speculative, or nostalgic for a future that has now arrived (or never came) or looking forward to the one that is coming towards us. Perfect for the mood of fall, I think!
6. (4) Thesis Statement - like a school essay, the title of your disc is your thesis statement. Your track list should work as supporting evidence or arguments. be as serious or silly as you like. e.g. "Prog rock is the greatest genre of music" or "There are too many songs about California".
7. Tie (3) People, Places, And Things - A disc comprising of songs that are named after people, places, or things. Things could be modes of transportation, roads, etc.
7. Tie (3) Soundtrack to My Life - Imagine you're making a movie about your life: it could be from birth to present, or about specific time(s) or event(s) you lived through. Think about the specific scenes that will tell your story. What songs will be playing? The listener should ideally be able to follow the narrative arc of your story.
8. Tie (2) I Know What You Meme - I've always seen these as memes on Spotify playlists. Doesn't have to be inherently good musically, but the tracks names tell the story or an idea. The disc has a theme on their own making, but the requirements is that the song titles are making a short story.
8. Tie (2) Accelerando - The disc starts with songs slowly in BPM and gradually increases with each track. People can use a BPM finder to determine each BPM track.
